Hutt City Libraries offer free computer and internet access at all our libraries.

Customers are entitled to two free hours of internet a day on our public computers at any of our libraries. You will need a library card to use your free internet time – for help getting or using a library card please talk to a member of staff. The two free hours can be used over multiple sessions if required (e.g. 1x hour plus 2x half-hours). You can still pay for a voucher if you do not have or want a library card, or if you need more than two hours.

WiFi is available for free at all our libraries, with no time limits.

Use a Kiosk to add value to your Connect Account to pay for computer and internet use, and printing using your library card. If you don’t have a library card you can still purchase Connect vouchers at a Kiosk using cash and Eftpos.

Free Wifi can be accessed at all eight Hutt City Libraries. Simply connect to the ‘HCC-Public’ network.

Our wireless network is intended for basic internet usage (e.g. browsing the internet, webmail, and internet banking). You may find the speed is slower at the libraries than your connection at home. This is because it is a shared network with lots of users.

You may notice after school hours or during busy periods the Wifi will be slower. To help control this our wireless network uses 'Bandwidth Throttling' software. This is used to limit how much you can upload/download on things such as video streaming, BitTorrent protocols and other file sharing applications.

The network has been configured to not allow any executable files to be downloaded, as these use large amounts of bandwidth and can slow Wifi connectivity. This ensures users who are connected for basic internet usage have as fast an experience as possible.
